Job Description

The Centre of Hydrogen Innovation (CHI) seeks an experienced and highly motivated Associate Director to join our team. The Associate Director will play a crucial role in shaping the strategic scope of hydrogen-related high-value problem statements for CHI to focus on; engaging with the Singapore research ecosystem (including the grantor, industry and Principal Investigators(PIs)) to direct research into the above-mentioned focus areas, manage CHI grant calls, and build commercial partnerships between PIs, industry and investors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape the strategic scope of hydrogen-related high-value problem statements for CHI:
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the problems and challenges related to hydrogen innovation and technologies. Use this knowledge drive the strategic direction of the Centre.
  • Familiarise oneself with the landscape of hydrogen research in Singapore. Understand who the key players are and what their roles and responsibilities entail.
  • Engage the Singapore research ecosystem (including grantor, PIs) to direct research into the above-mentioned focus areas.
  • Regularly engage PIs to keep abreast of their research progress, and new research into CHI focus areas.
  • Encourage PIs to apply for Centre grants and provide them with the necessary support throughout the application process.
  • Manage CHI Grant Calls: Oversee the grant call process from start to finish. This includes calling for projects, organising project selection, awarding grants, and monitoring progress (includes monitoring of budget utilisation and tracking expenditure).
  • Prepare and complete required documents for external research funders/partners and industry collaboration.
  • Ensure that grant calls align with the Centre’s strategic objectives.
  • Build commercial partnerships between PIs, industry and investors: Act as a strategic node between PIs, grantor, industry, investors, etc. to develop licensing and spin-off opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with external entities to facilitate partnerships and drive the commercialisation of hydrogen technologies.
  • Centre Secretariat – Lead the process for the bi-annual CHI Governing Board and quarterly ExCO meetings, including preparation of meetings materials, coordinating with PIs for project updates as part of the meeting presentation, annual reports, administrative and secretariat support.
  • Any other tasks and activities as designated by the Director.

Qualifications

  • Recognised, advanced degree in a relevant field (engineering, energy, environmental science, etc.)
  • Experience in a leadership role, preferably within a research and/or academic setting.
  • Knowledge of the hydrogen sector and its research landscape in Singapore, would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and grant programs.
  • Strong networking skills, with experience building relationships between researchers, industry and commercial entities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
