Job Description


This is a position within the South East Asia Legal team based in Singapore. This position will focus on Expansion, as well as providing retail legal support to functions within the respective Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Philippines market. Reporting into the Head of Legal and SEA Expansion, the responsibilities include:


  • Be a competent legal advisor and reliable business partner supporting H&M’s expansion in the SEA region.

  • Review, draft and negotiate lease/tenancy agreements for H&M stores including legal documents related to construction and facilities from a pro-business perspective with minimal risk exposure to H&M.

  • Proactively advise on legal issues/disputes related to Expansion and draft responses and letters in relation to contentious matters.

  • Maintain a dashboard of critical legal risks in the Expansion portfolio and status of progress.

  • Assist the Head of Legal to provide overall legal support for other departments, identify non-compliance issues, recommend courses of action available to H&M business in South East Asia.

  • Assist in research and analysis on legal issues with cross-border element in business/ consumer laws and other laws relevant for the industry.


  • Qualifications


  • Experience with international law firm, multi-national corporation or retail leasing would be a plus.

  • 2 to 5 years of law firm/ in-house legal experience; called to the Bar in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines or other common law jurisdiction.

  • Excellent English language skills (verbal, written and listening) and the confidence to communicate well in a multi-cultural and multi-level environment.

  • Self-starter who is able to work with minimum guidance and demonstrate a pro-active, positive attitude to their work and detail-oriented approach.

  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and a high energy level with ability to thrive in a busy, commercially oriented and hands-on environment, working as a team.

  • Grasp key drivers of the business and industry and quickly become immersed in the business and legal issues facing the company.

  • Speak fluently in lay terms to a range of audiences about the business and legal priorities.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of corporate and commercial law.

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize effectively and handle multiple deadlines.

  • Proficient in communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
