The Opportunity
Recognizing client and business demands for specialist policy wordings support, Aon is looking to onboard a Wordings Specialist to join a rapidly growing Technical Team in Asia, providing guidance on policy coverage and re/insurance issues to support Aon’s frontline brokers at direct and reinsurance level. The role will involve exposure to several business lines:
- Property: commercial property, industrial special risks and business interruption.
- Casualty & Liability: comprehensive general liability, products liability, products recall, financial loss, cyber risks.
- Marine: marine hull and cargo, stock throughput, port & terminals liability, offshore energy.
- Specialty: personal accident, terrorism, political violence, (onshore) energy & mining, construction power & infrastructure.
As global insurance markets harden, and underwriters look to tighten up wordings in a time of change, the role of the wordings specialist is evolving. In a service business, Aon constantly strives to anticipate the rapidly changing needs of its clients and develop new and optimal solutions to meet those needs. Aon’s Asia Technical Team has a vital role supporting Aon’s future business growth in Asia, new product development and client service.
This opportunity requires a candidate with a solid track record of relevant experience and the self-confidence to support Aon’s brokers and clients from day one. The successful candidate will be willing to assume responsibility and support teamwork across different business groups and in-country operations in Asia. The role offers opportunities to move ahead and develop a career path based in Singapore.
Responsibilities

- Supporting frontline brokers to provide “real time” guidance on coverage issues and advice on appropriate risk transfer solutions.
- Help differentiate Aon as an expertise firm who clients engage as the “smartest kid on the block”, to give them the best solutions and ideas.
- Developing “best-in-class” insurance terms, slip standardization and product development.
- Attending broker, carrier and client meetings to provide guidance and expertise on specific coverage aspects.
- Advising sales and account managers on coverage and products issues to help target new prospects and develop and existing client relationships.
- Thought leadership on policy wordings, risk factors and market trends.
- Researching potential coverage issues and producing guidance materials and resources.
- Providing technical insurance training for brokers and clients.
- First line support for insurance-related contract matters, acting as an interface between brokers and Aon’s in-house legal and compliance teams.
Requirements
- A commercial attitude towards insurance products and their value to Aon’s clients.
- A “plug in and play” energetic team member with a track record of policy wordings and insurance experience.
- Readiness to take responsibility of assigned workstreams and able to work collaboratively.
- Policy and contracts drafting experience with an ability to adapt and develop new products.
- Ability to take ownership of a full pipeline of work and manage multiple competing priorities.
- Confidence to facilitate complex discussions.
- Attention to detail and able to see the “big picture”.
- An inquisitive mind and problem-solver who reliably sets and meets high standards.
- Adaptability to work on a range of different wordings and support brokers in a “user-friendly” manner.
- Sureness in dealing with colleagues, clients and carriers across all phases of the risk transfer cycle.
- Commitment to continuing professional growth, expanding their existing technical insurance knowledge and skills.
- Law degree or legal experience which involves an element of reviewing and preparing insurance policy wordings, or a degree in a suitable subject or relevant insurance or legal qualifications.
Essential Requirements
- Enthusiastic about insurance and genuinely interested in the insurance business, products and our clients.
- Ideally, between 5 and 8 years relevant experience gained in an insurance, reinsurance or law firm. (Suitable candidates with fewer years’ experience may be considered if good reasons and clear motivation for the role can be demonstrated).
